Flexedtoolkit Google project

WANTED: Developers who can contribute to this open source initiative ๐Ÿ™‚

I have created a google project to put in some of the stuff that we have been working on and releasing through this blog. Some of the stuff that you can already download from Flexedtoolkit are –

  1. Autorefresher
  2. Client Idle Timeout
  3. Custom Alerts
  4. Custom Grid

I am working on a small component – CForms. The idea is to have a generic UI rendering engine that will create forms from an XML file. This is particularly useful in serious business applications where you have a lot of user entry screens. So, if the developer needs to have a screen, they just include something like –

<widgets:CForm controlsFile=โ€controls.xmlโ€ id=โ€VLANโ€/>

Everything else – Styles, layout, look and feel etc. will be handled by the CForm component as per instructions in the abc.xml… Getting a picture?

We initially did this as part of my project requirements at work. And it was a life-saver. Now, I would like to extend it beyond what it is today. I want to make it more generic and feature rich so that others can leverage on it.

The project homepage is http://code.google.com/p/flexedtoolkit. If you are interested in joining the project, do leave a comment. ๐Ÿ™‚ Really hope some of you folks would find time to work on this.

    I could not get you correctly, Whether it was some thing like using infopath(MS). it also has the same features what u were trying to implement if its like that.. can u mail me clealy about that:)

  2. danielneri says:

    Great job!

    I’ll contribute if I have anything useful to contribute ๐Ÿ˜›

    Am not sure about Infopath, but lemme explain what i am trying to do here. Using the CForms component, the developer can create a entry screen by just creating an xml file like this –
    <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″?>
    <group column=”0″>
    <name>Learning Port</name>
    <type id=”Boolean” editable=”true”/>
    <type id=”text” name=”Name”/>

    and then in the mxml, using
    <widgets:PropertySheet controlsFile=”controls.xml” id=”VLAN”/>

  4. Did you miss part of the posting? You said folks needed to include something like…

    Or was that deliberately left empty?

  5. udayms says:

    actually the code block got screwed up… ๐Ÿ™‚ lemme fix it. thnx for pointing it out ๐Ÿ™‚ … btw, i have had any takers for this till now ๐Ÿ˜‰ if u r interested, drop a comment :).

  6. We were experimenting with similar approaches at work. We have one team that uses simple XML metadata and interprets that in the Flex code to display a table with columns.

    Our team has used the JET engine in Eclipse to generate Flex code based on a Flex template we wrote.

    But I think all teams would like to be able to pass in some descriptive metadata for the fields (for DataGrid or some editing form) and a reference to the server calls to retrieve and update. Then the Flex code would draw the edit form and populate it with data, for example.

    Is this what you had in mind? There’s probably many ways to crack this problem. Is the metadata more like MXML, or WSDL (hope not), or even XHTML?

  7. udayms says:

    I will send out a document of what I have right now and that should give a better idea of what i am trying achieve.

  8. Kevin says:

    Hm, I’m very interested in the CForm component. At work we’re going to need to be able to dynamicly create forms in Flex with data of an database. This would be an very nice solution. Creating an XML of the needed data and Flex interprets that.

    Do you have an estimate on when you could show more of this?

    Thanks for the offer. You can find me on Twitter (BernardFarrell) and I think you have my e-mail from this submission.

    I could really use something like the CForm component. I can volunteer some time to help finish it.

  29. Hi, whats up? How is it going today? It’s just that i enjoy your website so much, and that i believe you could start making alot of cash from it. I have a couple of thriving websites that i started making some money from lately. They are using something called a content hider widget, that makes visitors fill out a small survey to unblock premium content or to download files that they want. And each time they do a fast quiz i earn about two dollars. Really awsome eh? Been making lots more from it than google adsense! Feel free to contact me, or you can check it out through my refferal link. http://www.tinyurl.com/yevwfst, Regards, Hennrik G. Hansen

  30. Currently it looks like BlogEngine is the best blogging platform available right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your blog? Also, please check out my site http://hakko808desolderin.blogspot.com/
